His loyalty is one of exchange; he is loyal to Arthur in the same way that Arthur is loyal to his people, and appropriately, he becomes a spokesperson for the knights through the rest of the series, constantly assuring Arthur that he is not alone in his dreams. It’s interesting to note that his statement at the round table echoes that of Freya to Merlin. But as his loyalty is first and foremost to his heart, he is also willing to help the ghost of a druid boy achieve his peace even if it meant endangering his king. Elyan’s death breaks Gwen’s last thread of ‘faith’ in the people that she loves, causing her to succumb to Morgana’s spell.
Tomorrow, when you fight, you can stand proud knowing you are members of the most noble army the world has ever known.
